Pop-Up Ads

We are sorry you have been getting pop-up ads when you are logged into Horseland, but those ads are not coming from Horseland. Most likely you have some "spyware" software installed on your computer.  This software is often installed without people being aware of it when they install some other programs.  This "spyware" software pops up ads at various times.  You can remove this software by downloading and running some software to remove the spyware.  We recommend the following free tools:

Adaware from Lavasoft
You can download this software from www.download.com.

Go to that site and then download and install the software. You can search for "adaware" or try this link:http://download.com.com/3000-2144-10214379.html?tag=lst-4-2

Spybot
This software is also available from www.download.com

Banning and Booting

Horseland staff and Moderators will ban players who swear, cyber, constantly harass, post bad pictures, sell accounts, flood, scam, steal, charge real money, impersonate Horseland staff, threaten people who enter their shows (Private Shows), log into banned accounts, or use scripts. We have players of all ages, we will ban anything that young children shouldn't have to come in contact with. We will also delete the descriptive information of any horse or player that we find inappropriate.

Also Horseland Moderators have the power to temporarily 'boot' players from the game for a number of offenses. The types of things that Mods may boot player for include, but are not limited to, harrassment, scamming, flooding the TALK boards, cybering, bad language, slander, impersonating Horseland Staff, etc. It it up to the Moderator to decide if he or she should boot, ban, or simply warn a player if they are doing something wrong. For more information on Moderators, please click here.

- If you have a dial-up internet, we suggest using the fastest modem you can. We suggest at least a 56 K modem.
- Be sure not to run any other programs or download music while playing Horseland.
- Don't open multiple browsers, that can really slow things down.
- You may need more space on your hard drive. Talk with your parents about deleting programs you don't use.

Money - Coins

The money in Horseland is called Coins. They are sometimes represented by this symbol in the game:. You buy and sell many things in the Horseland Game with Coins: horses, dogs, feed, vet and farrier fees, show entry fees, clothes and tack.

There are two major ways to get Coins. You can earn them by playing fun games, or you can purchase packs of Coins from Horseland with real money. Click on the symbol on the top right navigation to learn more.

Once you've been playing for a while, there are several other ways to make Coins.

You can make Coins by selling horses. Just like in real life, you can buy a horse at a low price, and after some showing and training, sell it again at a higher price.

You can make Coins by hosting shows. Every player can start 1 show a week. Other players have to pay an entry fee when they sign up for classes and you get the entry fees! So the more people that enter your show, the more Coins you get!

Finally, you can earn Coins by boarding other players' horses in your Stable. When you offer boarding, you must feed all the horses in your Stable. So your weekly boarding fee should be high enough so you can buy food. Just like in real life, you can try to advertise your Stables in the Forums and Talk boards to get more people to come to your Stables.

Please remember that Horseland Coins have no real world value and can only be used to purchase services provided directly by Horseland LLC. Any act of trading/selling and/or unauthorized/fraudulent charging is in direct violation of the Terms of Use and all violators will be subject to immediate account termination. Always ask permission from your parent or guardian before you buy Coins. If you don't, and the payment is later canceled or declined, you will be permanently banned. Horseland Coins are non-refundable.

Shows

Horseland offers Horse and Dog shows. There are 2 types of Horse shows: Jumping Shows and Automatic Shows.

Horse Jumping shows are fun and interactive. You can literally maneuver your horse around a jumping course using the arrow keys and space bar on your keyboard. You and your horse get points immediately after you finish the course.

Jumping shows come in different themes: Grass Arena, Beach Show and many more to come.

If you are entering a Premium Player's show (hint: their shows are highlighted in the show listings) and you successfully jump all the jumps you'll get a 20% point bonus at the end of the class!

Check the "Bonus Days" box on the Community page everyday to see if today is a Bonus Jump Day! Depending on the day, Premium players can get up to 5 extra jumps on any show they create that day! Basics can get up to 4 extra jumps.

Bonus jumps will be added to any show created during the bonus day -- themed show or non-themed show.

Please note the length of a "day" is defined by Horseland time, so watch the official Horseland clock to find out how much longer the bonus jumps are available. This is probably different from the "day" in your life :)

Horse Automatic Shows are not interactive. In Automatic Shows, you put your horse on a class list then, over night, the winners of the show are randomly picked and are points awarded.

Dog Shows are also Automatic.

Ready to show your horse?

Horse Jumping Shows
To enter a Jumping Show:
1. Click the "Shows" link on the top navigation
2. This page has a list of all the Horse Jumping Shows. Click on one that sounds fun.

Each Jumping show has 4 classes. We recommend practicing each class before entering it. You can practice for free as often as you like. You will be charged the entry fee when you enter.

Automatic Horse and Dog Shows
To enter an Automatic Horse Show:
1. Click the "Shows" link on the top navigation
2. Check the "Automatic Shows" checkbox.

-Type(the type of show you're looking for)
-Only shows scheduled in the last (choose how many) day(s).
-Run date (mm/dd/yyyy means: if you're looking for a show that will run on March 14, 2004, enter 03/14/2004)
4. Click Find
5. Click on an Automatic Show that sounds fun. This opens up a new pop-up window.
6. Now, all you have to do is press the "Enter Class" button, and notice how the class will change from (1-class name to 2-class name)
*click only once, and when the "wait" button appears, please wait, you won't be able to click again until the "Enter Class" button re-appears. You will be charged for every class you enter.

4. Click Find
5. Click on an Automatic Show that sounds fun. This opens up a new pop-up window.

Automatic Shows have 100 classes. Once your horse or dog has been entered in an Automatic class you have done all that you need to do. You do not have to be logged in when the show is run in order to have your horses or dogs win. You can check back on the show page to see the results once it has been run. Also, from your horse/dog page, can click "View Show Results" to see if your horse has placed. When a show is run if your horse/dog places within the top 30 spots in a class, the results of that class will be listed on the "Show Results" page. If your horse/dog does not place in a class, nothing will be posted under Show Results. (All show results are deleted after four weeks).

The Automatic shows are run automatically by the computer on the date set by the person who made the show and are judged randomly- you don't have to be signed in to Horseland when your show runs.

The first place horse/dog in each Automatic class and the horse/dog's owner receive 32 points each, second place receive 31 points, third get 30 points and so forth, on down to 30th place, who get 3 points each. Horses/Dogs and owners who achieve lower than 30th place get 2 points each just for participating.

Health and Showing
To enter shows your horse must be healthy. It must be up to date with the vet and the farrier. Also, your horse's health can't be below 25%. You can check the health of your horse from the horse's page.

Starting a Show
Every player can start one show a week. You may pick either a Horse Jumping, Horse Automatic or a Dog Automatic. There is is "Shows" section towards the bottom of your Home page. You can manage your shows here. Click the "Create a New Show" link to start a show.

Horses

You can buy your first horse from the Store by clicking on STORE in the menu, then click on "Horse Market". You can also buy horses from other players. To search for horses for sale: click FIND in the menu, then click "Horses". You can search for horses by entering different characteristics that you are looking for such as breed, type, age, etc.

- Horses age one year of game time for each week of real time.
- Horses may be ridden in the World when they are at least 2 years old.
- Horses may compete in Shows and Breed when they are at least 3 years old.
- Horses may be retired when they are 21 years old, at which time they can no longer Breed or compete in Shows. You can still ride a horse in the World even when they are very old.

There are three kinds of horses:

· females which are called mares

· males which are called stallions (or studs if they are available for breeding)

· males which are called geldings that have been fixed so that they cannot breed

Horses have to be kept in a stable where they are fed. You can keep your horses in your own stables or someone else's. This is called "boarding". You have to pay the stable owner money to keep your horse there. To change where your horse is boarded, go to the horse's page and click on "Change Stables".

Points

HorseLand's game runs on a point system. Both owners and horses receive points from Shows. If you enter a Jumping Show you and your horse get more points for successfully jumping the jumps in a fast time.

In Automatic Shows, the points you receive is determined by the placement of the winners. The higher you place in a show, the more points you get. The first place horse in each class and the horse's owner receive 32 points each, second place receive 31 points, third get 30 points and so forth, on down to 30th place, who get 3 points each. Horses and owners who achieve lower than 30th place get 2 points each just for participating.

Foal Points
Baby horses can be born with points if their parents have points. The computer uses a complicated (and secret) formula to determine foal points. It is based on the points of both parents. Usually, the more points the parents have, the more point the Foal will have. Foals have less points than their parents, because they don't have experience in shows yet.

Humane Association

If a horse has not been fed for over 30 days the horse will automatically be collected by the Humane Association. Also, if a horse's board fee is not paid for over 30 days, then the stable owners can send it to the Humane Association.

The horse's owner will have one week to reclaim it. If the horse is not reclaimed within that time, it will be sold at a price determined by the Humane Association. To reclaim a horse, go to the Humane Association page (from the Clubs list page) and run a search for your horse. If you were the last owner, you will see a link, "Reclaim Horse", that you can click to get the horse back.

Home Page Descriptions

Decorating your Home Page

Basic Players and Premium Players can decorate their home pages. To customize your home page you have to enter some HTML and text in the description box for your home page and click the Save Changes button.

HTML is a special code that make words and graphics appear the way you want on the Web.

The first thing to try is to change the way some text appears:

To change the font size, type
<fontsize="3">
By changing the number, you will change the font size.

You must type
</font>
at the end of the text that you want to be the new size to end the new font.

To change the font color, type
<font color="green">
That will make the text following that statement green. You can play around with different color names. Again, don't forget to end the section of colored text with
</font>
To post a picture, you need to know the URL (internet address) of the picture.
Then type
<img src="http://www.myhomepage.com/horsepic.gif">

Of course, put the actual URL for the picture in instead of
http://www.myhomepage.com/horsepic.gif.

Here are some additional rules and tips for your homepage:
1. We do not allow remote style sheets (these are style sheets located on other computers). You can still use style tags and CSS located within your home page.

2. Make sure to use the correct (long) url for links. This applies to Horseland pages also.
For example: instead of "/vownersd.hl?id=1234"
use "http://www.horseland.com/vownersd.hl?id=1234"

3. Don't use HTML comments.

4. We do not allow layouts that cover up the ads or navigation at the top of the page. If you have a cover-up layout, please remove it. We will give warnings to those who do not remove them, then they will be cleared by staff.

For more help with HTML, try this site:

If you added HTML to your Home Page Description and now you can't see part of your Home page

This most likely happened because you added some bad or incorrect HTML to your description. To fix this, press this button. It will delete everything in the description box of your home page.

Hacking

Hacking and Stealing of Horses and Money

People call riding horses on the roadway "Hacking". But in Horseland people also call it hacking when some loses horses or money to people that they did not want their horses or money to go to. Unfortunately, we cannot return horses or money that have been "stolen" by other players. We have no way to determine who is the rightful owner. If you think someone is getting into your account, change your password right away (do that from the bottom of your home page). Remember to check to make sure none of your horses are listed as FOR SALE unless you really want them for sale. Also, never give your password out to anyone or have partners in an account. That is the main reason that people lose things. We also cannot help players in cases where they buy accounts from other players and do not get them or if the same account is sold to many people.

Horses

Changing your horse's picture

You can upload a photo for your horse's page. To see your photo click on the "Picture" tab under your horse's avatar.

You can change the photo used for your horse any time you want. On your horse's page click "Edit Picture" button. You can choose from the pictures that we have supplied or you can upload a horse picture into Horseland computers.

You can personalize your pictures. You will need a program that can edit photos. You probably want to start off with a digital picture of one of your horses. You can get a digital picture in several ways: You can take a picture with a digital camera. Or you can use a film camera and when you get the pictures developed ask for a "Picture CD" with your film. They will put your pictures on a CD that you can load into your computer. You can also scan in your regular photographs using a scanner. Many people have scanners. (Maybe you can find one in your school).

You can buy a photo editing program or you can download a free one from web sites like http://www.download.com.
One free and easy to use program is ACDSee Classic

If you upload a photo of your own, for best display results keep the image size to 740 (length) x 490 (height) or less.

The new horse pages use Flash Media player to view the images. Make sure you have installed the latest version of Flash. You can download a free version online here:

PC users
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Mac users
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&P2_Platform=MacOSX

Make sure you open a fresh browser window to test these fixes.

If you have tried both of these suggestions and you are still unable to view or upload horse images please send us a reply to this email along with:
Your account ID number
Your web browser type and version
Let us know if you are using Windows Vista or if you are on a Mac as well

Feeding and Boarding Horses

You can feed your horses if you have them boarded at your own stable. You can buy stalls for your stable at the General Store. Buy a stall for every horse you want to keep at your stable. Once you own stalls, you can keep your horses at your stable. To can see all the horses in your stable click the "View Stable" button on your Home page. To feed your horses, you must first buy feed at the General Store. Then click on the "Add Feed" link next to each horse in your stable. You will add seven days worth of feed at a time and this feed will be subtracted from the Servings left in your feed bin. If a horse is not fed for four months it will die.

If your horses are boarded somewhere else, the player who owns the stable will feed them as long as you pay the boarding fee. If the stable owners are not feeding your horses, send them a note or move them to a new stable. To move your horse to a new stable, go to the horse's page and click on the "Change Stables" link. If you do not pay your boarding fee the stable owner may send your horse to the Humane Association after 31 days.

Breeding

Horses must be between 3 - 20 years old to breed. Once they turn 21 they can no longer breed. Only mare owners can control the breeding. If you have a mare that you would like to breed, search for stallions that are available for stud by going to the Horses page and searching for stallions. When you find a stallion you like, you can click on the link called "Breed one of your mares with this stallion". You will then get a page that lets you pick which one of your mares to breed with this stallion.

Selling Horses to Friends

Hint on selling horses to friends: If you want to sell a horse to a friend, don't just put "This horse is for Mary ONLY!!" this is not safe. And we can't get the horse back for you if someone other than Mary buys it. Set the selling price for the horse as high as possible then have your friend bid at a reasonable price. You can then accept your friend's bid. This is the same way you can transfer your own horses between your accounts safely.

Branding

Brandings on Horseland are similar to a Branding in real life.
A branding is a marking that a stable owner puts on her horses to show ownership.
You may make up your own group of letters or numbers etc for your own Brand so that other players know the horse came from your account.
Brandings can be made permanent on each horse's page as well.

Upgrading your Horse

If your horse was born before October 2008 it doesn't have an "Avatar". You can "upgrade" your horse and create an avatar for free! To do this, go your horse's page and click on the "My Horse" tab under your picture. Then click on the green button. You can pick the horse that looks the best to you.

You must upgrade your horse before you can ride it in the World or breed it.

Sorry: zebras & pegasus can not be upgraded. We will add that feature soon. Until then, you can breed them with other zebras & pegasus. But you can not ride those breeds in the World.

Training

It is not necessary to train horses, but training does give your horses more points.

To find a trainer go to your horse's page and click on "Find Trainer" button. Then pick a trainer. This puts your horse on the trainer's waiting list. The trainer may or may not get around to training your horses that month. If your horse is not trained that month, you will have to apply again the next month. You can see what training requests you have made by clicking on the link from your HOME page.

To become a Horse Trainer, you first need to be a Premium Player (Click Here for more info about becoming a Premium Player
Back to Top

Retirement

When you horse is 21 years old (21 weeks) you have the option to retire him. You will see a "Retire" button appear on your horse's page at that time.

Retirement is optional. You can keep your horses for as long as you like if you can keep feeding them, but retirement is a good idea if you don't want (or can't afford) to keep feeding your horses.

When you retire it, your horse is moved to the Horseland Pasture. The Pasture becomes the new owner of the horse.
You can't visit your horse after it's retired, but be assured, your horse is well taken care of!

We're sorry, once you retire a horse there is no way to un-retire it.

Retirement

When you dog is 16 years old (16 weeks) you have the option to retire him. You will see a "Retire" button appear on your dog's page at that time.

Retirement is optional. You can keep your dogs for as long as you like if you can keep feeding them, but retirement is a good idea if you don't want (or can't afford) to keep feeding your dogs.

When you retire it, your dog is moved to the Horseland Dog Retirement Farm. The Retirement Farm becomes the new owner of the dog.
You can't visit your dog after it's retired, but be assured, your dog is well taken care of!

We're sorry, once you retire a dog there is no way to un-retire it.
